Dermaplaning with Facial: Aftercare for the First 72 Hours
By Beauty by Emily | October 12, 2026
I’m big on results, and the biggest rule right after dermaplaning is simple: protect your skin like it’s fresh. That means no direct sun, no heavy sweating, and no “let me just scrub this” moments for the first 72 hours. Clients tell me I’m “very knowledgeable and professional, ” and I take that seriously, especially when it comes to aftercare. If you’re in Concord and you want your glow to last, this is the timeline I want you to follow.
Quick reminder: Dermaplaning with Facial is a 60-minute treatment that includes dermaplaning, a mask, and neck and shoulder massage for rejuvenation. It’s relaxing, but your skin still needs smart care afterward.
0–24 hours: keep it calm (especially in Concord humidity)
Right after facial and dermaplaning, your skin is freshly smoothed and a little more reactive than usual. Most people look glowy, but you can also get mild redness or sensitivity. I keep you informed during your appointment, and the goal at home is the same: keep things gentle and predictable.
Do this
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser. No scrubs, no cleansing brushes.
- Hydrate with a soothing serum (hyaluronic acid and ceramides are great) and a fragrance-free moisturizer.
- Wear broad-spectrum SPF the next morning, and reapply if you’re outside. This matters a lot around seasonal outdoor events in Concord and Kannapolis.
- Let your skin breathe. Keep hands off your face, and skip picking at “one little dry spot.”
Avoid this
- Heavy sweating and high heat. Hot yoga, long runs, saunas, hot baths, and steam can irritate freshly dermaplaned skin.
- Pools and open water. Chlorine, salt, and lake water can sting and increase irritation risk.
- Active ingredients like retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and acne “spot nukes.”
- Makeup for at least 24 hours, unless I specifically clear you sooner based on how your skin looked in the room.
If you commute along the Kannapolis Highway corridor, give yourself a real cool-down before washing your face at night. Change out of work clothes, get the A/C going, then cleanse gently. Less heat equals less surprise redness.
24–72 hours: the “don’t ruin it” window for dermaplaning
This is where people accidentally cancel out their results. The skin usually feels extra smooth, and that’s when it’s tempting to throw everything at it. Don’t. Keep it simple for three days, especially in our humid summers around Concord and Kannapolis when sweat and sun sneak up fast.
Sun, sweat, and heat
- SPF every morning. If you’re outside for a game, festival, or kid’s practice, reapply.
- Keep workouts light for 24–48 hours. If you do exercise, keep your face as cool as possible, then cleanse gently afterward.
- Skip saunas and hot tubs for 48–72 hours. Heat tends to bring out redness.
Skincare: boring is good right now
I’m all for a great routine, but right after dermaplaning I’d rather you be consistent than ambitious. Stick with a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum, and a moisturizer. Makeup can usually come back after 24 hours, but lighter coverage and clean brushes help a lot.
Planning tip for travel and events: If you’re coming from Harrisburg, Mount Pleasant, China Grove, or Charlotte for an appointment and you’ve got an event that weekend, book dermaplaning with facial a few days ahead so you’re past the 72-hour window.
Days 4–7: when you can restart actives (slowly)
A lot of my clients come in for “that smooth, glowy look” and love how their skin feels afterward. To keep that going, give your barrier time to settle before you bring back anything strong. I generally recommend waiting 5–7 days before you return to retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, exfoliating pads, and gritty scrubs.
A simple re-intro plan
- Start with one active product one night. If your skin is calm the next day, you can keep going every other night.
- If you feel stinging or tightness, pause and go back to gentle hydration for a couple days.
- SPF stays non-negotiable. Smoother skin can look amazing fast, but sun can also show up fast as irritation or pigmentation.
- Don’t pick. I know it’s tempting, but picking is the quickest way to trade glow for a mark that hangs around.
If you’re still researching facials near me and trying to figure out what fits your skin best, I wrote a broader overview here: facial options in Concord, NC.
My go-to post-facial routine (product types, not brand names)
You don’t need a whole new shelf after dermaplaning. You need the right categories, used consistently.
Cleanser
Mild, fragrance-light (or fragrance-free), no exfoliating beads. Your skin should feel clean, not squeaky.
Hydrating serum
Hyaluronic acid is a favorite. Ceramides are great too, especially if you tend to get dry or sensitive.
Moisturizer + SPF
A fragrance-free moisturizer morning and night, and a broad-spectrum SPF every morning. If you’re outside in Concord or Kannapolis, reapply after outdoor time.
If you’ve got your appointment coming up and you want to set your skin up for success, I also have a guide on how to prepare for dermaplaning with facial.
Redness, sensitivity, and when I want you to text or call
Mild redness and a “slightly warm” feeling can happen the day of your service, and it usually settles within 24 to 48 hours. A little dryness can also show up as your skin adjusts. What I don’t want is you sitting at home wondering if something is normal.

Reach out to me if: redness is getting worse after day two, you have swelling, your skin feels raw or painful, or you’re breaking out in a way that doesn’t feel like your normal skin. I’d rather answer a quick message than have you guess.
If you want the full refresher, I keep an updated version of dermaplaning guidance here: dermaplaning with facial aftercare. And if you’re ready to keep your skin on a steady schedule, my Dermaplaning with Facial is 60 minutes for $100. I’m right near the Concord and Kannapolis border, so it’s an easy stop if you’re coming up the Kannapolis Highway corridor.
Need a quick check-in? Call or email and tell me what day you’re on after your appointment and what you’re using on your skin. I’ll point you in the right direction.
